It’s a form of training that can benefit purebred dogs as well as mixed breeds – and it’s an effective way of building confidence if your pup tends to be on the shy side.
Scent training shares some similarities with the training that professional detection canines undergo to identify various substances and scents. It involves dogs searching for cotton swabs that contain oils like cypress or clove. The swabs are put out of sight in a search area, where your dog must locate them. Teamwork is an important part of the training. When your dog locates the swab, he or she will learn to to communicate it you!
